Why does my car turn on, on the second try?

Why does my car always turn on, on the second try when my gas tank is under half full? I don't have this issue when I have full tank but when I'm under half tank my car always turns on, on the second try. Why does this happen? I have a 98 Honda civic just in case that matters.

If you hold it for Atleast 10 seconds it should work on the first try. If it doesn't work after 30 seconds then your batteries probably dead

Aging vehicle, mabey fuel filter needs changing. If full tank has added gravity it may start easier, could be recirculatory system, gas cap three "clicks" tight?, weak fuel pump ect. ect.
