will running a lot result in being able to run faster?
Pretty self explanatory. I'm not slow, but would like to be able to run faster. I'm talking about sprints. I usually just run for distance.

Kylie is right. Distance running is an aerobic activity. It depends on your aerobic efficiency, your VO2 Max. The ability to use oxygen and eliminate wastes.
Sprinting is mostly an "Anaerobic" activity. Short sprints are performed almost entirely with the chemical energy present in your muscles already. You only breathe hard AFTER the run to recover and remove wastes.
So if you want to sprint faster, you need specific training meant for sprinting. Strength training, upper body work as well, working on form items like stride length, etc.
