Just because you are an American doesn't mean yo can go to any country without a visa. But in the case of the Philippines you can go for 30 days visa exempt. You can also do the same thing in Thailand come for 30 days visa exempt if you fly and 15 days if you enter Thailand at one of it''s border. Each country has it own rules, so not every country is the same. You need to check each countries embassy website for details.

Marc: You have to have a passport to travel to ANY international destination. Can't even get on the plane without one.

    As for the visa.

You will have a FREE 30 day visa stamped in your passport upon arrival here. You do NOT have to get one BEFORE you come. To stay longer you can extend it at ANY Philippine Bureau of Immigration very easily. Check out this website for more info

I personally have made the trip from Seattle Wa. 7 times & I never got a visa UNTIL I arrived here. So no need to worry. Just come on over. You can stay up to 16 months before you have to leave the Philippines for a few hours to restart the process.

Americans get a 30 day entry stamp (extendable) without a visa.
