please explain the batman vs superman storyline...?

i thought they were on the same side? did this happen before Justice league?

    There is no problem between them and they are on the same side. Batman wanted to show superman that a human could beat him. That way he'll keep himself in check. Batman had come up with a way to defeat everyone in the justice league. I know this because I've watched tv shows and a lot of movies. That's the way the movies gonna mainly happen unless they add a twist.
