What Is The Theory Behind Drinking Your Own Urine?

Some people claim this is a healthy thing to do. Why? Does the theory hold any water? (pun not intended but there it is)

So far, drinking urine has no known health benefits, unless you're out in the wilderness and have no source of water. People have been drinking it since the ancient times because of religious beliefs or for other reasons (Celts in the Iberian peninsula gargled it to whiten their teeth - I don't think it will though).

Urine is comprised of 95% water, and that remaining 5% is not very good for you, as your body wants to get rid of those toxins, so why should you drink it back in again? That 5% includes sodium and potassium - too much sodium causes you to be dehydrated and too much potassium can lead to a heart attack.

It is very sterile, it doesn't contain much bacteria.

Some people claim it's a healthy thing to do due to superstitious beliefs related to one's cultural background. Along with it are their claims of longevity, increased stamina and resistance against illnesses, etc. However, drinking urine isn't exactly a healthy practice since urine carries toxic wastes in the body which are meant to be flushed OUT and not taken IN again :D

No, because urine is just water with the body's wastes, why drink something back the body is trying to get rid off?? There is far better ways to get nutrients and minerals in that trying to recapture the few in the wastes of the body.
