Standard Potential 10 Points?
Suppose I have a copper cathode and zinc anode in a 1M NaCl solution, what are the half equations and calculate the standard potential
Thanks in advance!
Zn becomes ionized, goes into solution and loses two electrons, but where do the copper ions come from?

Cu2+ + 2e ---> Cu
Zn --> Zn2+ + 2e-
Standard potential = Cu reduction potential - Zn reduction potential
EDIT: That's a good point. No reaction would occur if there are no ions in the solution with a greater standard reduction potential than Zn. I assumed there were copper ions in the solution.
