Advise on a past relationship?

I dated a guy that had been my best friend for a few years. It did not work out because he wasn't ready to settle down, I think. I still think about him all the time and still have MANY friends in common. It's been about 6-7 months since we split up and I haven't talked to or seen him. My question is, since I still constantly think about him, should I try to reach out to him? I would like to establish our friendship again, but when we split, I left the ball in his court. I think he is too embarrassed to contact me because he was the cause of the end of our relationship/friendship. With the holidays coming up maybe I am just feeling low. What would you do? I think mostly I just miss my friend.

The problem is, it's very hard to be "just friends" with someone you used to date/have feelings for. However, try reaching out. It doesn't hurt to be friendly or try to rekindle a relationship.
