Can you ask the judge to dismiss a traffic ticket?
I got a traffic ticket for making a U-turn where I wasn't supposed to, but when I did so, I carefully looked for the NO U TURN sign and didn't find any. My ticket says "failed to obey no u-turn sign"
Then I used google maps to find the place where I made the illegal turn and found the sign pretty much hidden and impossible to see at night.
I want to go to the judge and explain this as well as provide photographic evidence that the sign is not visible at all.
I want to see if he can dismiss the ticket, I just want to know how should I ask for it in order to maximize my chances, please let me know what you should think or what I should add:
"I ask you to please dismiss the fine"
"I ask you to please dismiss the fine or at least reduce it"
5 points.
More information: I can't find the right statutes, the one I need is about the visibility of the sign, which CA statutes talk about the visibility of signs?
Also, in order to proceed with my explanation, should I declare myself guilty or not guilty?

Check your traffic statues, there should be a law that states when anything prohibited by sign , that sign must be reasonably visible. If there is, and there should be, print a copy of the law and ask to dismiss it based on the argument is was not reasonably visible. Traffic statutes should be available online.
You will also need photographic proof of the sign. Take the picture in your car and in the same place you made the turn, so the judge sees it from your perspective.
Make sure you look at the statute number that you were charged with, and read that too... as Fate mentioned, it is possible no sign is necessary for the violation.

Even if you can show that the sign was hard to see, the judge could also say ignorance isn't an excuse. I'd say best case scenario for you is a reduction, but it's a toss up.

The judge will tell you, "Guilty as charged. You can pay your fine at the cashier's office. We'll send someone out to fix the sign next week."

Be sure to read your state laws. Normally, assuming it's a highway, states prohibit u-turns on freeways unless otherwise stated. There doesn't need to be a sign if this is the situation.

Explin, with whateer photographic evidence you have (your own photos are better than a StreetView image), and just aks for him to dismiss the charge.
He'll decide if it is fair.
