why does my male cat seem to be in heat?

My 7month old kitty acts like he's in heat, like a female, he'll wander around meowing, gurgling and humming like he's a female in her heat. It can be really annoying and no he's not fixed yet but not spraying either and yes I am sure he's a he

I'm afraid to tell you that entire Male cats will 'call' just like the Female for exactly the same reason, to attract a mate! unfortunately he's just practicing now & it's only likely to get worse!

If you want peace & quiet restored to your house, I would book him in at the vet to be neutered as soon as is convenient. Do not wait until he sprays to mark his territory! Other scent marking behaviour includes face/body rubbing & scratching aka stropping, sometimes misinterpreted as sharpening claws. You may have seen him already marking his territory like this. Spraying can be triggered by the slightest thing that we are not even aware of like seeing another cat through a window or you bringing a strange cat's smell in on your clothes or hands. Or even the arrival of something new in the home.

Some entire Tom cats never spray & some neutered males do spray, although both are distinctly in the minority!

Personally I get any unsold male kittens neutered as soon as possible (usually 5 to 6 months old). They barely notice it whilst young.
