the sec gets an automatic bid??

after reading quite a few posts about the current bcs standings im confused. at what point did college football add the rule that the SEC has an automatic bid for at least one team in the BCS game, regardless their conference champion loss record and possible undefeated teams out there. I have also seen a few posts about how Alabama was automaticly put in the bcs game as of week one regardless of record, im confused if anyone can please explain this to me it would help a lot by the way there is a lot of dont know crap about sports idiots on this site,

Update:

thanks for actually explaining it but I already know it was all in sarcasm

It has the same automatic bid as 5 other conferences do. Problem is, is that the SEC has 2 networks (ESPN and CBS) that try to tell everyone that it's best conference. It's not. Just because a representative has won the last 7 titles in a non-playoff format doesn't mean it's the best. Kentucky won the basketball title 2 years ago, did anyone think the SEC was the best basketball conference then, no. The difference between the SEC and the rest besides the backing of 2 major networks, is that it is both top heavy and bottom heavy. The top 3 or 4 teams are usually legit national title contenders and that is usually 1 or 2 teams more than any other conference. However they also have between 4 or 5 really bad teams that in any other conference would be just as bad if not worse and that is 2 or 3 teams more than any other conference. For example, Mississippi State was 8-4 last year in the SEC and didn't beat a single team with a .500 record.

There are five BCS bowl games in all.

    1. BCS National Championship Game (#1 vs. #2)

    2. Orange Bowl

    3. Sugar Bowl

    4. Fiesta Bowl

    5. Rose Bowl

There are six conferences whose winners receive an automatic bid to play in one of those five BCS games. Those conferences are:

    American Athletic Conference (AAC)

    Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC)

    Big 12 Conference

    Big 10 Conference

    Pacific-12 Conference (Pac-12)

    Southeastern Conference (SEC)

Since there are five games, a total of 10 teams get the opportunity every year to play in a BCS game. That pool of 10 teams is filled with the 6 qualifiers from those conferences I listed and 4 other at-large teams. Auburn plays Missouri in the SEC Championship game and the winner of that game has a great chance to play for the BCS Title. In Alabama's case, they are still 11-1 on the year and ranked 4th so even though they won't win their conference, they are still ranked high enough and WILL be selected by one of the four other BCS bowl committees. It just won't be the National Championship game unless Florida State and Ohio State lose to Duke and Michigan State, respectively (the first won't happen at all, the second could happen though).

The SEC has been in the past 7 championships and paraphrasing the Auburn Athletic Director; not having an SEC team in the BCS championship would be like not having turkey on Thanksgiving. I agree.

Because the SEC is the best football conference, second to none,

And I go to a big XII school, so it's not like I go to LSU and just blindly follow my conference)

because they play harder teams then any other teams not from the SEC , the SEC has the best teams in it so its a lot harder to win get it?

i dont even think auburn can beat FSU but i think they should be in the BCS if OSU was in the SEC they would be a 4 lost team at best , i understand some people cussing about FSU not playing anyone but they blew out everyone they played OSU almost loses to every team they play.

Some SEC fans think they have a birthright for the National Championship Game. Well they don't.
