Amazon Kindle Tablets can connect to a Wifi network. Kindles (as well as laptops, smartphones, etc) can connect to a Wifi network, not create a Wifi network. You'll need to set up a Wifi network if you don't have one.

If you only have wired internet at home then you need to add Wifi (a wireless extension of your wired home network). There are two ways to do it.

    1. If you have Comcast or Fios or similar internet provider in your own home, call them and ask what the cost (if any) would be for them to add Wifi to your network.

    OR

    2. Buy a Wifi router yourself and follow the instructions to connect it to your wired network. If you are not tech-savvy then this will be easier if you have some computer geek kid or adult help you. This will work even if you live in an apartment with just a single ethernet jack as your network. You will just need the Wifi router and 1 additional ethernet cable. The Wifi router should also have physical ethernet jacks on it.

current ethernet jack -> cable -> Wifi router -> cable -> computer

Once the Wifi network is set up, you should have a Network Name and a security Key (also called a WEP key) which is like a password. I recommend the network be set up with a security key so others cannot connect to your Wifi.

Then when you try to connect to the Kindle store or try to use the browser on the Kindle Tablet, it will bring up a list of the Wifi networks it sees. Choose your network, then enter your security key (if any). And now your Kindle should be on the network and able to browse.

Sorry - if you don't have / aren't paying for any kind of wired internet at home then I don't know a way to set up Wifi. You could call Comcast or other internet provider and ask them the initial and monthly cost at add internet service including Wifi to your house.

Contact a local internet company, ask what their rates are and arrange for an account to be setup. They will walk you through what you need to do. Be sure to tell them you want a wifi modem.
