Who's family do we spend Christmas with?
My boyfriend and I have been together 2 years 9 months, the last 2 years we spend Christmas Eve night with his family, we leave at about 10 am on Christmas Day. This year, it's different. We have our own place, we have our own little family in the form of two dogs and a cat. I want to include them in our Christmas. His family hates animals. Another thing is that their house is pretty crowded this year, we would be crammed on to a choice of a rock of a double bed or a single bed with springs digging in your spine. I'm not happy about this. The main thing is, although they can all speak fluent English, they speak Portuguese whenever I'm there, they don't speak to me apart from the odd word. I find it rude and ignorant. It makes me feel extremely left out and alienated. I don't really want to spend the holidays feeling this way. I don't know if he understands. Am I being rational about not wanting to spend the holidays with them? I want to leave at 10 pm, I don't want to stay there. What do you think?

I think you need to talk to your boyfriend and tell him how you feel, forget about the pets for Christmas, go wherever you get the best food and presents and have a merry Christmas.

I see no problem with you leaving at 10:00 pm. I have never stayed the night at my family's house, we always go home and have our own Christmas. I would leave your pets at home though, too much going on for them. You may need to have a chat with your boyfriend. It's his family so he may not see it your way.

I would say go to his parents on Christmas eve, don't stay the night, spend Christmas eve night and Christmas morning at the home you have together, then go to your parental for Christmas lunch and afternoon. Or, spend Xmas eve at his parents, stay the night at your home and Xmas day then see your parents on boxing day or vice versa. It's your Xmas hunni, do what the hell you like xxx merry Christmas xx
