I would say C. That's the most shocking in terms of impact to a team, but if you mean what the media and fans would think, the answer is probably B. I'll answer for the impact on teams though.

Look at how things are for each team at the current moment. Not that I think any of these players will be traded, but I'll just go over each one.

If Dunacn was traded, the Spurs would still have Tony Parker (who is their franchise player), Ginobili, young potential star Leonard, and a bunch of other good players. The loss of Duncan would still leave the Spurs as a playoff team, likely competing for home court in the first round, but no worse than a 6th seed, in my opnion.

Kobe: Not many people expected the Lakers to contend in the West with Kobe, and many thought it was only possible they could contented for a bottom 2 spot in the playoffs. The Lakers have done a pretty good job at holding the fort down without Kobe though, and they are hanging around in the playoff race 18 games into the season. They have some depth on their team, and even without Kobe, they could probably compete for a 500 record. They're 9-9 now. Theoretically, if he comes back at a reasonable time, and he's healthy, they should be a playoff team no questions.

Wade: The best player in the NBA, and all star Bosh, would still be on the team, along with a few other contributors. In the East, they would still easily be a top 3 seed without Wade. Definitely more beatable, but it wouldn't be as devastating as some other situations.

Dirk: This would be the most shocking, because out of all players above, Dirk means the most to his team. While it's true that the Mavs have some good players, if you take Dirk away from the Mavs, it's a completely different story. The reason being, such a high percentage of the offense revolves around Dirk. Many players get their good shots just from Dirk being on the floor. I'm not a stats expert, but I'm willing to bet that Dirk has one of the most telling +/- in the League also. The Mavs are a collection of good, capable NBA players, but not close to a playoff team without Dirk. They would likely finish around 12th in the West without him.

    A. By far. B is the most betraying, but just if all of these players were traded, Id be shocked to see the big Mr. Fundamental not in a Spurs uniform. The Spurs are too loyal.

Order of Possibility: (Least to Most)

    1. Tim Duncan

    2. Kobe Bryant

    3. Dwyane Wade

    4. Dirk Nowitzki

    (B) Kobe, especially after they just re-signed him to a huge extension. There's two folds of impossibility to this scenario. First, Lakers wouldn't trade Kobe, especially with the fans they have. And second, no team would be willing to take on Kobe's huge contract, especially if Kobe starts playing poorly or has injury issues, which is the only reason Lakers would willingly trade him. I don't think he will ask to be traded either. I think his ego is too big for that. He thinks teams should be built around him, not the other way around, and he doesn't respect guys like Lebron and Dwight. Duncan is a close second. He's less likely to ask for a trade than Kobe, especially since his team is still a contender. But most teams would be willing to pay $10 million a year for Duncan's services, so it's only one-folds impossible.

*A. Duncan is never leaving. He'll retire before he leaves*

    B. Kobe isn't going anywhere with THAT contract.

    C. It COULD happen in the future. Mavs go into full blown re-build when Dirk is old enough to not be part of the plan, and they trade him. Small possibility.

    D. Won't happen as long as LeBron is there. But too much unknown in Miami to say for sure.

Duncan, Bryant, and Nowitzki all have no-trade clauses in their contracts. They're not leaving unless they want to. I don't see any of them leaving their current teams.

Wade? He can be traded. He probably won't want to leave, but the Heat could face a salary situation, where they can keep James or Wade, but not both. Guess who gets shipped off?

I think A. C or D wouldnt be that big of a deal, and I don't think people would be that surprised if Kobe got traded because some people are of the mind that they should just tank and rebuild.

I think Kobe leaving the Lakers would be the most news-worthy, but it's a toss up between A & B.

  • Kobe Bryant not in a Lakers uniform? That would be just messed up.
