Explains the skyline and nissan names please?

I'm a muscle car guy and am lost when it comes to these names. Could someone explain the difference in the gtrs and skylines, ect. Why are some called gtrs, and others r34s, and skylines.

I know I sound stupid but i never learned all the import names. I could tell you every variant of the mustang ever, but I'm trying broaden my car knowledge.

GTR is the model and skyline is pretty much a package. The (first) page below really helps if you have some time to read and that's just about skylines/gtrs. The second link is pretty much history about Nissan and from that they have many links to more specific subjects about the cars and company

The old Skyline had option packages ie GT, GT-S, GT-T, GTR. The R3X are generation models.

Currently Nissan decided to use the Skyline name to use on their luxury sedan and it's performance car is just called a GTR now.
