Solving for y and graphing?

It says, "solve for y and sketch the graph of each line." The problem is 4x+y=-5 and I'm so confused!

    Solve for y means get y by itself, so to do that, add -4x to both sides.

    y = -4x - 5

    and now graph either by making a table, or using slope-intercept (start by putting a dot at -5 on the y axis then from there go down 4 and over to the right 1 (to (1, -9)) and put a second dot then draw a line through them).

    Move the formula around so that it is in standard form.

    y = -4x - 5

    Now, just choose some values for X, plug them into the formula, and graph them.

    If X is 1 , then y = -4(1) - 5

    (1, -9)

    If X is -1, then y = -4(-1) - 5

    (-1, -1)

    You can get as many points as you wish and then 'connect the dots'.

    Aside from what hayharbr and Marianne have said, you can

    ALSO

    try zeroes.

    4x+y=-5

    Let x=0, then y=-5 giving the point (0, -5)

    Let y=0, then 4x= -5 so x = -5/4 giving the point ((-5/4), 0)
