"inaka" places in Japan close to cities?

My mother asked for me to look for homes in the more country sides of Japan online, however I'm not very educated on the areas of Japan. But she also wants access to the city, so a train station nearby as well. If someone can think of a place like this (if there is one) please let me know.

My example of what she means by country side would be Shikoku I guess?

Yeah, there are many places in Japan that are in the countryside, but also near a train line that will go to a major city.

Or does she mean real "inaka" -- like cows in your backyard?

For example, there's a place in Hokkaido called Shintoku. It's a major stop on the express train route between Kushiro and Sapporo. Sapporo is about three hours away, and I think Obihiro is less than an hour away. Shintoku is a rather small town, and I think you could get a home in super-inaka that would be less than an hour's bike ride away from Shintoku Station. (Except in winter, when you'd need snow shoes and three hours.)

There are many places like that in Japan. Just live somewhere around a city. If you take a train for 1 hour or so, you can go to a city.
