How to acess my USB files?

I was using my computer and then i noticed that all of the files on my Flashdrive appeared to be gone. I checked the properties and according to all computers i have checked, the files are still there. I went to the settings and it said that I didn't have premission and everytime that i tried to change that it changed back.

I want steps the best for:

Ubuntu 12.04

Ubuntu 13.10

Windows XP

Windows 8

Windows 7

Update:

I found out that this was for my entire harddrive. I tried editing a file and it said that it was read only. I think something made my entire hardrive and my flashdrive read only.

ive seen this issue when the computer has become infected with malware/viruses.

you can use an uninfected computer to change the properties of the files back.

select all the files and click properties and uncheck read only. this will work usually but if the computer is still infected they will most likely change back. when this happens to operating systems files and your entire computer your basically screwed you can still save all your files but you will need to reinstall your operating system.

first thing id do would be to run a scan of your computer with malwarebytes antimalware so you can use your computer.

then copy all the stuffs you need of to an external hard drive then reinstall.

    good luck
