Home remedies are:
1) gargle with salt and warm water
2) lick some honey coated with turmeric powder
3) gargle with salt and turmetic and lemon juice in hot water.
If this treatment does not fix it in couple of days see a doc as it could be something more serious especially if you hetting serious headache with it. If no headache then get some antobiotic as a last resort.

Hello Michael,
The most effective way to treat a sore throat is to remove the infection causing it.
For some immediate relief, suck SLOWLY on a teaspoon of honey.
The human body is capable of fighting infection on a much higher level than is normally possible.
You access the normal level of resistance when you have an orange that contains some vitamin C. You access an additional (and more effective) level of resistance when you choose to supplement more vitamin C than the body would normally be able to get from food.
The more vitamin C you give your body during an infection, the more effectively the body fights the infection; excess is excreted. You need to be fairly strict in taking the vitamin C since the body cannot store it!
Warning:
Ensure the vitamin C supplement you get contains "Bioflavonoids", which is needed to enable the vitamin C to be absorbed.
You should continue such treatment even when you start to feel better, until about 2 days after symptoms have gone, because some infection remains unnoticed by you within the body for a while, which can start to grow again. The third day that you feel a lot better, end by slowly reducing the dosage over some days.
For a significant infection, take 6 grams of Vitamin C per day (2 grams 3 times a day), but reduce the dosage if you encounter any diarrhoea.
Also take the herb “Echinacea” (but only if you are taking the additional vitamin C), which boosts the immune system - but do not take for more than 5 days.
Garlic will protect against bacterial infection. The best type of deodorized garlic is Quest Kyolic Liquid garlic, a quarter teaspoon measure (1.25 ml) three times a day.
Keep yourself warm, since when the body gets cold, this causes the immune system to become less efficient.
I hope you feel better soon.
Regards,
Robert

its annoying when an illness lasts longer than usual... there could be a couple of reasons your throat is still sore... look at your lifestyle and determine if there's anything you do that is irritating it, like smoking or drinking (alcohol)... are you under any kind of stress right now too?
best advice would be to see a doctor to get a blood test to see if you have anything underlying that may be treatable.
also look after your throat more, if you smoke as I suggested try to cut down or stop, alcohol should be avoided completely, take a good multivitamin once a day, try to keep well hydrated with water and normal drinks all through the day (apparently sprite is very good for sore throats, google it!), gargling with warm salt water or crushed aspirin in warm water a few times a day will help soothe your throat, keeping your neck warm can also provide comfort even indoors. There are also over the counter sprays that can numb the throat but these can be costly and can only be used sparingly.
