Has anyone read Divergent by Veronica Roth? Can you help me on how to write a thematic statement?

So I've read Divergent and it was really good but the problem I had with it is coming up with a thematic statement. My thematic concept for Divergent is identity and my explanation for the concept is that Tris Prior is resulted as a divergent from her aptitude test and she has to hide her identity as a divergent when she's in dauntless. In addition, being divergent means that Tris can fit in with more than one faction but being divergent is also dangerous as the government will kill anyone who is divergent once they are found. In this book,Tris wants to find her self when she's in dauntless b/c she wants to leave her abnegation self away. Now, the only the problem is coming up with the thematic statement for the thematic concept of identity. Can you help me make a thematic statement for identity? And can you also explain how the author develops the theme through out the novel?

Update:

@esg2000, this is not an essay, it's a book project and I have to do divergent only. I just to know how to write a thematic statement

Well for a Thematic statement you can use a variation of: "Beatrice Prior's journey throughout the Divergent trilogy (or just Divergent if your essay isn't about the whole series and just book one) tells the story of 'Tris' finding herself and exploring her true identity, breaking the barriers of the 'five faction' future dystopian world that this book resides in."

As for the theme, I recommend reading 'The Path to Allegiant' (Allegiant is the last book in the trilogy) and even though it does not center on Divergent it talks a lot about Tris breaking out of her shell and finding herself (for example, the name she chooses-Tris versus Beatrice-says a lot about her trying to fit in, and her getting tattoos shows a rebellious action toward Abnegation and her parents and exploring her true identity, what she believes in, what she disagrees with, whatever else .) If you have an Amazon account that book is free-and only about 30 pages.

Also I would specify why the government wants to kill the Divergents (because they cant control them like they can the rest of the people in the five factions)

    Hope I helped!
