what to bring to a gluten free party?

The host has celiac disease. I want to bring a appetizer. Something easy I can pick up at the store.

So, good news is that picking up something at the store is pretty much the way you want to go, because your host is not going to eat anything you make yourself - the risks of cross-contamination will be too high.

Easy one: chips and salsa or chips and guacamole. Look on the bags/containers for this and find the ones that say gluten free. I believe Garden of Eatin' corn chips are still gluten free, for example.

Some potato chips are gluten free, too, but the gluten free potato chips tend to be more expensive for less chips so will be more of a pain, really.

Most corn chips are Gluten Free and should say Gluten Free. You could bring the corn chips and homemade or store bought salsa or guacamole or a Shrimp Cocktail platter or Cheese & Sausage platter. Most supermarkets and Big Box stores now carry these.

Be sure the product you buy "does not" contain Barley (malt, malt flavoring and malt vinegar are usually made from barley), Rye, Triticale (a cross between wheat and rye), Wheat.

I'm not sure what specifically you should get for your party, but you can pick up deviled eggs or you could go to the gluten free section in your store. I know that Walmart is starting to do this in the baking isle. The location may vary depending on which store though.

Source(s): Family member can't have gluten. And Walmart experience.

There is a brand of rye crackers called Wasa. Check the label, but it's 100% rye (they've since branched out.)

    So that and cheese.

Look in the gluten free section in your local supermarket and you'll get some inspiration :-)
