Why does my rabbit make honking/snorting noises?

It sounds like he's hormonal. If he runs in circles around you (not inside his cage) then that is a sign of claiming you for his own. That would usually be the first step before humping and spraying urine (both signs of ownership). If he continues to do this and/or it gets worse, then you may want to have him neutered.

Having sudden bursts of energy is pretty normal for a bunny. Does he have times when he's let out of his cage to run that energy off? If you scroll down here to the video "A series of binkies and bunny 500s," you'll see about midway through the clip, some of these types of runs.

If he's just grunting, that is another sign of hormones.
