What does really help?

Who would you give your money if you, lets say, want to help the starving children in Africa?

Would you give that money to a priest to pray for them?

Or would you give it to organisations that actually provide them with food and fresh drinking water?

Update:

Doing vacation there does NOT help anyone. So If you think that going there for a week and reading from the bible helps, stay home

Update 2:

And I think that establishing self-sufficient infrastructre is a bit more complicated than that

A priest that takes money to pray, is not a priest. He is a hypocrite. There are churches that does real good work, as there are organizations that waste most of the money in a heavy complicated system to get the help out. It is not an easy pick.

Considering people have been praying for things for 5000 years and nothing has ever happened, I'd give my money to a group that does something tangible.

Prayer is all about making the person doing the praying feel better without actually doing anything to help.

  • Well I wouldn't pay to have another person says a mass for me or prayers. I would do that myself I would have to trust the organization before I gave them money as much of my money might go to administration I might rather sponsor a child or support someone who works in missions I will be sponsoring a child 2014 through http://equipeglobal.org/

I give to several charities that provide training and tools to help people in other countries grow their own food and produce their own clean water.

Better yet, give it to an organization that helps them generate their own food and water so they become prosperous in their own right. the whole "teach a man to fish" thing.

if you want to make yourself feel better i guess .. if you really want to help somebody get a passport and take a vaca there and meet some people .. get their information, and stay in touch with them and send them care packages and things ..
