    2^8x-5 =1/8

    Remember that 1 = anything to the zero power ... for you 2^0

    8 = 2x2x2 = 2^3

    Now, what is the rule for division ... you can take it from here.

    You should put more parentheses in the problem for clarity's sake.

    AS PER PEDMAS you asked { [ (2^8) * x ] - 5 } = 1/(2^3)

    maybe that is what you meant, but we cannot be sure.

    {But I will bet you meant 2^(8x-5) ... in which case x = 1/4}

    BQ: Why did my high school teacher not tell me about these things called parentheses??
