How many dvds would it take to record. a life of 50 years?

Of course using. compression.

    A standard DVD holds about 3 hours of video.

    50 years is approximately 438,000 hours.

    So, at standard DVD quality you're talking ~173,000 DVDs.

    If you're talking about using something like DIVX which compresses a 90 minute movie into about 1GB of space, then you could fit almost 7.5 hours onto a single DVD, meaning you would now only need about 58,400 DVDs.
