In your opinion, how important is believing what can not be verified with facts?

When it comes to living a good so called normal life, how important is it to believe what we are told such as going to hell for misconduct or reaping what one sow?

Nothing of any importance should be signed on for without much evidence.

It is important to sanity to never believe in unsubstantiated nonsense.

If it is, there is evidence of that, period.

    Anything that exists is detectable.

    That isn't difficult is it?

No matter where you were born or to what culture, the belief in things than cannot be verified is as common as drinking water and eating food.

It's likely embedded somewhere in our minds that we have to make sense of things we don't understand, even if we have to make something up in order to do so. As a species we are quite arrogant about our place in the world, despite the fact that we are quite lucky our ancestors cashed in on their intelligence better than, say, Neanderthals. But evidence exists that even Neanderthals had burial rights, which proves that they had some feelings for the departed and likely beliefs on where they went.

Anytime a parent tells you something, you generally have a desire to believe it without checking the facts. An example (in the US at least) in Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny. Later, we tend to believe any authority figure that we respect (or are taught to respect), an example being a religious figure, another being politicians. It amazing the things some people believe, and their reasons for doing so.

So I think this strange idea of 'blind faith' may be vital for a certain percentage of humanity, especially those who feel afraid of their own lack of knowledge about a given topic, and is still important (perhaps less vital) for many who aren't. We, in general, do not like the idea of not knowing.

IMHO, if you believe something without supporting evidence, you are prone to making poor decisions and those poor decisions can potentially have an adverse effect on other people. It has been shown a number of times that Atheists can and do live good, productive and altruistic lives without the need to believe in the supernatural such as Hell or Karma.

Oh, I get it! You're talking about atheism and evolution - cannot be verified with FACTS.

Evolution in a nutshell: "Nothing, working ON nothing, BY nothing, FOR nothing, THROUGH nothing, begat everything!"

Here are some FACTS you have to contend with:

    1. Darwin's original premise was wrong. (He thought that the cell was the smallest component of a living thing. He was totally unaware of the internal structure of the cell, such as the mitochondria, proteins, DNA, etc. Because his premise was wrong, his conclusion was also wrong.

    2. Evolution depends on the existence of a "simple" life form from which other life forms evolved, but there just is no such thing as a "simple" life form. Even the very simplest single-celled protozoa is as complex as any cell in YOUR body, implying one of two things: Either YOU are a "simple" life form or the amoeba is NOT. Scientists' attempts to simplify the cell in ANY way results in a disintegrated cell. The mitochondria MUST be there, and it MUST be complete and complex. Proteins MUST be there, and they MUST be complete and complex. RNA, DNA, mitochondrial DNA, etc, etc - they ALL must be there, and they must ALL be complete.

    3. A cell can not be simplified. If you remove or simplify any individual component of the cell, the cell no longer functions. It would be similar to you trying to simplify your computer. Remove the memory, or the CPU, or the main board, or even an individual resistor or capacitor, or any other component, and your computer is fried and no longer operational as a viable computer. The same has been discovered for the cell.

    4. Fossil records show no evidence of a gradual change from simple to complex life forms. When uncovering (discovering) the strata that includes fossils, the fossil records (written in stone) show ALL life forms suddenly appearing all at once suddenly, with no prior fossils that lead up to the more "complex" life forms. They are all there in the same strata.

    5. The evidence used for pre-human beings have been shown to be fraudulent, including, but not limited to the piltdown man, java, lucy and others. One such bit of fraudulent evidence was a skeleton built from the tooth of a boar! A WILD PIG! This "evidence" was planted and discovered by over-zealous evolutionists trying, very unscientifically, to prove an unprovable theory. Even the neanderthal has been shown to be no different from an old person stooped over with arthritis!

Dr. Flew, an outspoken atheist, was a scientist (he has died since I first heard of him). He was doing in-depth study of the internal structure and function of the DNA molecule. He finally had to conclude that evolution is wrong, and that the origin of life is the results of intelligent design by SOME kind of Intelligent Designer.

He said in an interview that when he was young, he would allow the facts to take him where ever they lead, rather than driving the facts to support his own position. He said he had received a lot of flack from his colleagues for renouncing evolution, but he had to be honest with himself within his own heart. He said that to continue to accept evolution would be "intellectual suicide".

There simply isn’t a single shred of evidence to support evolution. ALL evidence has been demolished by 21st century science that wasn't available to Darwin, and in the words of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (AKA Sherlock Holmes), “When you have eliminated the impossible, then whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.”

So, why not join us here in the 21st century where REAL science is debunking evolution on a regular, nearly daily, basis, and quit being like a blind little sheeple who follows the cave-man, bronze-aged, goat-herder myths of their leaders (such as Dawkins and others); and start believing the Truth? ("When the blind lead the blind, they both fall in the ditch.")

It's important NOT to believe in anything without evidence. If you believe in gods without evidence, where do you stop? Fairies, unicorns, the Tooth Fairy? They all have just as much evidence.
