What time of year is fresh lamb available?

I'd like to do something special for Christmas dinner and was thinking leg of lamb. It occurred to me that fresh lamb may not be available this time of year. I live very far south along the US/Mexico border. Could I expect a butcher to be able to get this?

Almost all year in the USA. But it kind of depends on what type of lamb you want. A leg of lamb is not as available as lamb chops.

Ask your local butcher. Chances are he will be able to let you know what he can get.

You should be able to get lamb any time of year - however, as it is not a real common meat, it will most likely be frozen I would call a few butcher shops in advance to see if they will have any.
