What's wrong with Yahoo Mail?

It is not known when the service problems will be fixed.

In the meantime, some users (not all) are reporting that Thunderbird + IMAP works for accessing Yahoo Mail:

I have the same problem-2 days now! It says "we're unable to preview your mail. Go to Mail." Then you go to mail and it says "scheduled maintenance". I called the customer service number and it hangs up on me after 3 minutes. I do not know what to do????

WHAT IS WRONG? I have not been able to compose, delete, or OPEN emails for days. Google mail? Is there a way to 'feed' my yahoo mail over to Gmail and be DONE with yahoo?

Yahoo mail just ******* sucks. Period. It's been awhile now. Badly re-designed and does not respond like it used to. I'd check mails to delete. I click on the trash can and nothing happens. There's more. But you know all that. It's a hassle.

This is ridiculus! I need my e-mail and it has been 2 days-almost three-without it I did not ask for any maintenance, so lets get moving on this!!

No idea! I'm done with yahoo. Switching to gmail. I have had important emails that I have missed. This is not right. NO ANSWERS FROM ANYONE within yahoo. Can't get through via phone.

I tried thunderbird but I cant login w my password for some reason. I just got a new computer and cant register some things because I cant connect to my email . and I do sales from home and cant respond to my emails

My yahoo has been down since Monday too and there is no WAY AT ALL TO SPEAK TO A PERSON ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PHONE AT YAHOO! THEY JUST KEEP USING THEIR AUTOMATED MACHINES TO SEND YOU BACK TO YAHOO HELP WHICH HELPS NOT A ****!!

I haven't been able to access my email for over 36 hours also. What the heck is going on?
