What are some of the most painful injuries of which people have survived?

I'm writing a paper and have researched this for hours both online and in local libraries, with nothing to show for. Anyone know of any real stories? Where people have survived tremendous accidents? Thanks a lot i have researched this non stop and found nothing.

There was a guy working on the railroad in Canada years back who had a metal bar shot right through his head when blasting.

There was a guy not long ago who cut his own arm off to free himself from a rockslide when caving. or something like that.

There's probably an upper limit on pain - if you destroy the nerves, you won't feel anything.

Millions of people have survived burns, amputations, mauling etc. etc. in wartime and otherwise. How can you not have found anything ?

This one isn't out of pain, but out of bitter luck and survival. So, in World War II, 21 year old Stephen Alkemade's plane was being attacked by a German plane, which resulted in catching fire. Alkemade's parachute caught fire also, but he did not want to die from burning to death, but rather to jump out and fall to a quick death. But this wasn't the case. He jumped out, fell 18'000ft (5'500m), only to have his fall broken by pine trees and a soft snow cover on the ground. So basically, he survived an 18'000ft fall only to be given a sprained leg.

The same happened to American, Alan Magee, who fell 22'000ft (6'700m) and who's fall was broken by crashing through the glass roof of the St. Nazaire railroad station.

The same occurred to Soviet fighter, Ivan Chisov, who still had his parachute on and in working condition but wanted to drop below the ongoing battle that was taking place in which his plane got shot in. He jumped out of his plane from around 22'000ft (6'700m), but lost consciousness on the way down and was unable to pull the rip cord. He hit the edge of a snowy ravine at an estimated speed of somewhere between 120 miles per hour (193 kilometres) and 150 mph (241 km), then slid, rolled, and ploughed his way down to the bottom. He suffered spinal injuries and a broken pelvis, but was able to fly again three months later!

Source(s): Now is that a miracle or what!

you'll have forgive me if i'm wrong about being suspicious about your hunt for information, and non stop at that, since i pulled up tons of stuff on my first search.

you might try people who have survived accidents.

and again, if you really hunted, my apologies.
