Is the difference between a 160 and 320kbps mp3 file alot?
I know the main answers yes but is there a "significant" difference between say 160Kbps and 320? I read that usually if its under 96kbps then you start to hear the difference but will it be alot between 160 and 320?
Cheers.
EDIT: Thanks guys, im mainly thinking about a phone loudspeaker but i guess there wont be much difference

Yes, there is a big difference. A 320kbps file contains twice as much data as a 160kbps file. Whether that difference is significant, or even audible, is up to you. As others have said, disk is so cheap these days that there's no real need to skimp on quality. As disk has got cheaper and my headphones have got better, I've gone from 128kbps to 160kbps to 320kbps, and now I'm starting toying with lossless.

It mostly depends on the individual. Some here the difference anything less than 320, other 128, 96, etc.
Experiment with it. Get a song with both bit rates & play them to see.

only on complex tracks , once you go over about 192 you need very good equipment and hearing to hear any real difference, but with huge terrabyte hard disks and multi gigabyte players why not use the riginal .wav file or an mp3 with a 512 bit rate for best listening, you need a variable bit rate for best results
