What does "Direct bill utilities" mean?

I'm looking at apartments because I might be moving off campus next year, and I've noticed a lot of them say "Direct bill utilities". I was just wondering if that means that they pay for utilities, like electricity, water, sewage, etc.

No, it doesn't mean they pay for utilities.

It means you are "directly billed" for your utilities. "They" are not responsible. You are.

Most apartments come with water, trash and heat paid. One pays electricity, gas if there is a gas stove.

So check before you rent - what utilities - exactly - you will be paying for.

More likely it means you get directly billed for the utilities and you have to pay them. If the utilities were included in the rent, it would say "included".
