Can I reset the white balance on a Nikon D7000 camera without using the multi selector?
The up and right directions on my multi selector don't work and I don't want my white balance to be stuck on the same setting. By white balance, I am referring to the bar that controls the lightness and darkness. Not the colors.
I know what I'm talking about. I looked into it. It's in the manual under white balance. The manual, however, does not fix my problem.
Here's a photo showing what I'm talking about: http://i.imgur.com/Cdbn4aa.jpg
When I press down on the WB button, a bar pops up. I set it on the darkest level and cannot put it back in the middle because the up button on my multi selector does not work. I'd like to get it back to normal, but have no idea how.
I tried a reset by pressing the two buttons with the little green dots on them. All it did was reset my shooting settings.
Thanks, I'm pretty relieved to hear that, although I hate the brightness being so low. Not sure how I got it mixed up with white balance. I guess because that's where it was in the manual. I really like to use live mode, however. I hate using the tiny little viewfinder. I guess it's because I'm not used to using it. I've used pretty simple cameras up until now. (A Canon powershot and a Nikon coolpix) I also draw on my eyebrows and using the viewfinder smears them. My down button works, it's just the up and right buttons. I set it up so that the main command dial can be used to go through my photos and the menu. So there isn't much trouble. I'm having my boyfriend take off the back plate and look at the buttons to see if he can fix them. They may be simply stuck, as I spilled a bit of coffee on that part of my camera.

You are in live view mode, and you are adjusting the brightness of the monitor, not the white balance. White balance changes the color rendition of the photo. You should look on page 49 of your manual... step 10.
Yes, you depress the WB button, but this is a multi-function button - and when using Live View the multi-selector up/down changes the monitor brightness, not the white balance. To change the white balance in Live View, you use the main (rear) command dial while depressing the WB button.
So...
WB button + multi selector up/dn = monitor brightness
WB button + main command dial = white balance
If you don't use live view mode, you don't need to even mess with the brightness settings. Therefore unless you are using video, if you are not wanting to fix your camera, then minimize the use of live view.
The best practice is that live view should only be used when doing video. If you use live view during photo use, you are just wearing out the camera prematurely, as well as promoting camera shake - blurry photos, etc.
If your up-dn buttons are bad, how can you even traverse the menu?
