Atheists and Theists what do you think when you come across a quote like this?
"The existence of God is not subjective.
He either exists or he doesn't. It's not a
matter of opinion. You can have your
own opinions. But you can't have your
own facts." ~Ricky Gervais

I agree with that 100%, but because we have absolutely no solid evidence either way we can only go by our own judgment to determine what we believe. Also, even though only one of the two groups is ultimately right, the belief (or lack thereof) in God has had a profound real effect on everyone in the world throughout history.

When asked to describe my thoughts on GOD and Religion my train of thought led me right to gravity. . .
You can’t see gravity, You can’t taste it, I just know one thing for certain, that it exists.
The mystery's of faith an GOD are beyond human comprehension
Faith concerns questions which cannot be settled by evidence.
I feel bad that if someone does not have faith they would want others to agree with them!
How can the universe create itself out of nothingness? Given the fact that the universe began to exist, it must have had a “cause” that originated it.Doesn't it make more sense to assume the existence of a Creation. The question is tricky because it sneaks in the false assumption that GOD came from somewhere and then asks where that might be. The answer is that the question does not even make sense. It is like asking, “What does blue smell like?” Blue is not in the category of things that have a smell, so the question itself is flawed. In the same way, GOD is not in the category of things that are created or caused. GOD is uncaused and uncreated—He simply exists.
We know that from nothing, nothing comes. So, if there were ever a time when there was absolutely nothing in existence, then nothing would have ever come into existence. But things do exist. Therefore, since there could never have been absolutely nothing, something had to have always been in existence. That ever-existing being is what we call GOD ,GOD is the un-caused Being that caused everything else to come into existence. God is the uncreated Creator who created the universe and everything in it.
The universe requires a cause because it had a beginning, GOD unlike the universe, had no beginning, so he doesn’t need a cause. Einstein’s theory of general relativity, which has much experimental support, shows that time is linked to matter and space. So time itself would have begun along with matter and space. Since GOD is the creator of the whole universe, he is the creator of time. Therefore He is not limited by the time dimension He created..@
Life without GOD is like an un- sharpened pencil it has no point..
You can't see the wind, but you know it is there because you can see what the wind is doing. You can know that the wind is there because you can feel it.GOD is like the wind, you can't see him

So why do Christians deny and seek to hide from the facts that expose the false claims then?!
The only way primitive religion exists today is through the child abuse of forcing it into very, very young children but thanks to better education and growing intellects so many teens are able to discover the truth, throw off the indoctrination and step into the real world!
Academia states that in the absence of any sort of evidence of the existence of something it must be deemed not to exist until verifiable evidence is found - thus god is held not to exist pending some sort of verifiable evidence.
The bible is what is called "Faction" A fictional story set in a factual time and place. Thus the time, place and real historical characters are all correct but the fictional characters and stories are not!
There is not one single mention of Jesus in the entire Roman record - that is right - not one! At the same time as he was supposed to have been around there were a number of Jews claiming to be the messiah - all of whom are well recorded!
There is not a single contemporary record from any source and even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!
He was supposed to have been a huge problem to the Romans and produced wonderful miracles but still not one contemporary record?
Even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!
Pilate is recorded in the Roman record as a somewhat lack luster man but no mention of a Jesus, a trial or crucifixion that would surely have been used to make him look brighter!
At best he was an amalgam of those others but almost certainly never existed!
The Roman Emperor Constantine produced the bible and he was a pagan not god! He took the Jewish religion, organized it into Christianity and then into the Holly Roman Catholic Church!! Not in Israel or any of the countries of supposed origin but entirely ITALIAN!
Not one word of it is contemporary with the period and was not written until several hundred years after the period the story is set in!! How did the apostles write their books more than a hundred years after they would have been dead?
The first person to provide a shred of verifiable evidence for God will become world famous and mega rich! Ain't happened yet and it never will!
So how does this primitive belief in a god survive? The answer is simple and very down to Earth
Acceptance of a supernatural claim tends to promote cooperative social relationships. This communication demonstrates a willingness to accept, without skepticism, the influence of the speaker in a way similar to a child's acceptance of the influence of a parent. By encouraging this kind of behavior where the most intense social relationships occur it facilitates the lack of skepticism and deters more open minded thinking.
They are christian, Muslim or the other religions depending where they were born simply because they were indoctrinated by their parents as very young children. They will go on to indoctrinate their own children and those will go on to indoctrinate their grandchildren!
Atheists have the intellect to see through the conditioning and escape into the real world!
Agnostics have the intellect to see through the conditioning but lack the courage to throw of the conditioning entirely.
Sadly Christians, muslims and others are still held firmly prisoner by the self perpetuating brainwashing!

Too simplistic on the subject, since there is a third option of agnosticism which says that the answer is unknowable. While I am quite sure that gods do not exist I cannot say absolutely that there are no gods. I have about the same sureness that Russell's Teapot does not exist. I do not have perfect and complete knowledge of the universe. I leave that to theists who think their holy books explain it all.

Exactly. And is is for that reason that philosophy can no more determine whether there is a God than they can determine who lives at 123 Railway Cuttings Richmond. Both are simple matters of fact which can only be investigated by science.

Ooooh , yaaaaah,

Well I can't say if he's certain.. quantum physics seems to imply reality is shaped by the observer, maybe the existence of things are more subjective that we give them credit for
- Anonymous7 years ago
The same thing can be said about Santa Claus or Bigfoot. Until someone comes forward with empirical evidence supporting their conclusion of existence, I will stick with he does not exist.
