Should I run before or after lifting weights?

I want to run for 30 minutes in my workout schedule. Should I do it before or after lifting weights?

I am 19 years old male and I am currently fit. My goal is to have a body similar to swimmers. My workout schedule contains swimming and running. So I want to add lifting to it. And I want the lifting and running to be at the same day.

So should I run before or after lifting weights?

Thanks.

I honestly don't think it matters.

My dad is a weight lifter and runs on the side. I am a long distance runner, and I lift on the side for definition, strength, and injury prevention.

I run before I lift, he runs after he lifts.

We put our main priority first. I don't want my weight lifting to negatively impact my running by sucking up energy. So I run first, get my good workout in, and then I don't mind if a hard run takes away a little bit from my lifting because it isn't my pain focus.

You can also change things up too. If both of those are supplemental workouts then I would change it up. Some days lift first, some days run first.

    It's all up to you

Actually, you want to do a light warm up 5 to 10 minutes before lifting. Do not over do the warmup because you will deplete your glycogen stores.(Energy that the muscles use) After you lift then you can do your run. The run will be a bit more challenging because your body will be carb depleted. This will allow your body to utilize fat as its source of energy and allow you to burn more fat.

Do it before or not at all.

Why would you go for a run after working your muscles? Firstly I'd have no energy to do that and more importantly, I'd miss my protein window unless I was drinking a shake and running and that makes me feel sick just thinking about it.

I'd do cardio at a totally different time of the day really.

I would say before so that it will act as your warm up, for me I do running (not jogging) at setting of 14 to 15 for only 10 minutes which was enough to put my heart rate to nearly maximum which then pumps me up straight to lifting weights.

My logic is that if you put running after your weight lifts, you will end up having to lack the energy to run for that last 30 minutes (assuming that you used up all your energy on weights). so instead of doing it after then do it before to pump you up instead.

    hope that helps.

    Before

Running will get the blood pumping and warm you up prior to doing weights

You also put your muscles under more pressure as you will have exhausted the energy stores and this will make them grow back stronger than before

Maybe it's different because I'm a girl but my gym instructor told me to do 10 mins of cardio, weights and then 30-45 mins of cardio. This isn't to lose weight as I'm fine on that, it's just to be stronger and fitter
