What is the modulus of 5-3i?

Need help with a math problem...what is the modulus of 5 - 3i ?

    Hi,

    Recall absolute value gives distance to the origin.

    We have |5-3i|

    = sqrt(Re(5-3i)^2 + Im(5-3i)^2)

    = sqrt(5^2 + (-3)^2)

    = sqrt(25 + 9)

    = sqrt(34)

    draw the graph

    (5,-3)

    find the length from center to (5,-3)

    by Pythagoras’ theorem.

    3²+5²=9+25=34

    modulus is (34)^1/2

    sqrt(25 + 9)
