if it's frizzy/curly, there are plenty of gels you can use. Fructis Garnier works well, and completely eliminates frizz with curls.

Ignore everybody else. Straightening hair may reduce frizz a little bit, but doesn't take the frizz away completely. All it really does is fry your hair and make it even more frizzy in the long run. I have thick curly frizzy hair, too. I use Not Your Mother's Smooth Moves Frizz Control Hair Cream. It's around $4 at Walmart. The directions say to apply to towel dried hair, but I find it works best when my hair is almost completely dry, but still a little damp.
Put a penny-size amount in the palm of your hand, rub them together then put it on the top of your head where the frizz is then work it throughout the rest of your hair. Afterwards, shake your hair a little. It doesn't make your hair feel greasy or anything. Too much, however, will make your hair hard. If you have to, put a tiny bit of hairspray in, as well.
Another tip to stop frizzy hair is to use sulfate free shampoo and conditioner and AVOID head :)

Yes. I put a ton of effort in to straightening my hair. It takes time but it is so worth it. It makes me feel so much more comfortable about myself. Also remember you don't need to wash your hair everyday unless you have extremely thin and oily hair. If your hair is thick and frizzy you actually only need to wash it once or twice a week. Which definitely makes it easier to straighten it all the time.

Not really, there are many products you can use to help tame the frizz without damaging your hair through heat styling. My hair is super curly, thick and frizzy and I mostly use argan oil products on it. Mainly pro naturals Moroccan argan oil products, and maybe some almond oil. I use a few drops of argan oil on my hair after showering and that helps de-frizz and smooth my hair a lot!
