Why are white americans so stereotypical of Asians?

Note: only SOME White Americans...the ones I've encountered are usually in the higher class...middle class white americans I've encountered are genuinely nice.

I was born in America. "No, but...where are you ACTUALLY from?

I don't eat dogs. "Don't be silly, all Asians eat dogs."

I don't like doing the peace sign pose. "Well, ALL the Asians I see do the peace sign."

I can see with these eyes. "Really? But they're so small and chinky."

No, I don't eat white rice everyday. It's bad for your health. "What about sushi?"

No, I can't say your name in 'Asian'. "Wouldn't it be 'Ching Chong Ling Long...?!"

Yes, I get fairly good grades. "LOL then do math for me."

I'm not good at math. "You're joking, you're Asian of course you're good at math."

I am not a submissive Asian girl.

I am one of the tallest people in my grade.

I do not know karate.

I have tan skin, not yellow.

Just because I'm not an Asian "fob" then I'm trying to act white?

My hair is not blonde, nor do I have blue eyes.

But still, I guess I'm a "Japanese or Chinese or Korean" person trying to be Ah-mare-eh-cen.

Stereotypes don't happen because people will it so, they happen because it is a noticeable trend, or seemingly a trend.

Don't blame white Americans, blame the Asians that do follow the stereotype.

Lol. You must talk to a lot of hicks and obnoxious people. I live in a predominantly Asian community and am happy that I don't have to deal with that anymore. Yours is way worse though.

However, I don't mind the studious and smart stereotype. I do kick butt at schoolwork but there are a lot of white students who also do.

I don't mind the where are you really from question b/c it gives me the opportunity to educate them that there are more to being Asian other than being Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. Yes, it makes me feel like they're differentiating themselves from us, but at least they're curious.

BTW, Asians are just as racist as the whites are. Sometimes we shrug out shoulders and say "white people" (are crazy) in a condescending way. Racial discrimination goes both ways.

Sorry you encountered that. Most people nowadays try not to stereotype as much as they did way back but there's always going to be someone out there that's rude or doesn't think before they say something.

I will say that most Asians tend to be nicer and more down to earth than most whites I even know. I have Asian neighbors and they are very nice.

Stereotypes exist for a reason. Besides, either you are greatly exaggerating, or you happen to live among the most stupid and intolerant people in the country. I've never heard a white person say any of those seriously, and trust me, I know a lot of white people.

Get over it. EVERYONE is racist simply because we belong to a race.

Being "prejudiced" is something totally different. Only the ignorant masses lump them together because they aren't smart enough to know they are seperate issues. They also tend to speak about subjects they know nothing about. For instance, that "peace sign" has nothing to do with "peace". It's a "V" fo "victory".

Only recently has "stereotyping" had a bad name. It's an easy way to lump similar peoples together.

It's only when people state stupid things like you mentioned earlier that their ignorance is projected.
