Atheists why do you say to Christians "get an education''?

When Christians question you on atheism's credibility and reliability but when you conclude the Bible is a fairytale or a faction, it is never from backed up educational research or data, in tertiary institutions such as universities or by those who are qualified Bible scholars and theologians. Doesn't that just make you assuming hypocrites?

Update:

Resorting to immature condensation is the classic way atheist respond to questions they don't have the answer to. Thank you Jay

Most atheists take the doctrines of materialism to be established scientific facts not just assumptions. Educated atheists are aware of this, but often uneducated atheists/materialists are not.

They really are just defenders of the materialist faith (which has already been superseded by the way), anything that goes against this can confuse the atheist and can cause emotional outbursts, such as anger.

As you can see from the other answers, to question.atheism/materialism is still very taboo, people who do so are often treated with withering contempt, as this scientist explains, Dawkins for example is very skilled in this technique and many atheists/materialist try to emulate him with differing results.

When they say get an education, what they really mean, is be programmed by a secular humanist social science teacher, to have the exact same views and assumptions as them, as everyone who doesn't is stupid.

There is pretty much nothing to back up atheists assertions when they say things like the bible or Jesus was a fairytale. So overwhelming, in fact, is the historical evidence for the existence of Jesus Christ that there are virtually no serious historian today who would stake their reputations on making claims to the contrary, the evidence for the Shroud of Turn is just as overwhelming. Despite numerous attempts to 'debunk' it, they have all failed to do so.

They are too rigid/dogmatic to even be aware of this, it is not possible to remain atheist and not be a primitive thinker.

Atheism is a lack of belief in gods. What's credibility got to do with it? It is the credibility of theistic claims that are to be questioned. Can't you understand that?

As for the claim that the Bible is a fairy tale. It is a mixture of spurious historicity, conflicting philosophical opinions and copies of Sumerian mythologies. These ARE facts which can easily be found by doing a little research from independent sources. Read about Enuma Elish, and the Epic Of Gilgamesh for example. These were written long before the earliest biblical texts, which themselves resulted from word-of-mouth stories reflecting the religious fashion of the time. Moreover, the Bible was never intended to be the doctrinal document it has become now. It's intent was allegorical and to reflect the Hebrews' struggle to understand the world during the 1000 or so years of the Hebrew nation up till the time of Christ. Their conversion to monotheism under King Josiah around 600 BCE resulted in their god taking on the properties of all the other gods they previously worshipped, such as El, Baal, Marduk et al.

Find this out for yourself. That is what atheists mean when we say "Get an education". There are plenty books and websites with which document this. Not least the Bible itself

First, I've never said that to someone because they were a Christian. I say it to morons who think the Bible is SCIENCE, and who refuse to learn the science they are rejecting.

If you'd read what's posted on this site criticizing evolution, and you have any clue about evolution, you'll see the most idiotic "versions" of evolution described.

So, it's reasonable to say, learn what evolution actually SAYS, instead of criticizing it for what it DOESN'T say.

Second, you WRONGLY ASSUME that no atheists have ever studied the Bible or their original religion, or any other religion. Actually, in studies, atheists tend to know MORE about religions than even their own adherents do.

Third, I needn't do research to know that many of the claims in the Bible are wrong -- morally reprehensible, factually inaccurate, absurd and self-contradictory.

??? Uh, people who have committed their lives to defending the Bible don't reject it? Well, yeah. That means nothing to anyone who can think at all.

You BECOME a Bible scholar or theologian by committed to accepting the Bible as true.

Though there have been many people who dropped out of their theology programs because their study led them to conclude "This is really insane."

And there you go. Blaming EVERY atheist on Earth for the remarks of one or a few. Can't you just SEE that that's irrational?

Actually, the lack of evidence to support even the possibility of a god is all the proof necessary to not believe in a sky wizard. I fail to understand how anyone would believe anything in the bible after reading it. It became crystal clear to me it was all hokum after I went to a vacation bible school when I was eight years old. It took me only two or three days to understand the whole Judeo-Christian religion was based on a pack of silly lies. Nothing was even remotely plausible.

Many of the questions posted here by Christians show a great lack of education, especially in science.

As for the Bible, theologians start from a point of acceptance of it as fact or supported myth, where as I and several of the atheist contributors do not. This means we can examine it with an open mind. This is what I find:

    Errors: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Errors_in_t%E2%80%A6

    Contradictions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contradicti%E2%80%A6

    Other errors: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contradicti%E2%80%A6

The Bible is such a mess as to be worthless as anything other than a collection of myths.

Because, see, if you had an education, you would have known what "faction" means, and wouldn't have used it incorrectly.

Oh,and by the way, the vast majority of "bible scholars," who are mostly Jews and Christians, have indeed concluded that much of the bible is indeed fiction (not "faction"). For example, the consensus among them is that there was never a Hebrew captivity in Egypt, nor an Exodus, and that "Moses" is a mythical hero figure, not an historical one. Once again, if you had educated yourself, you would have already known that.

By the way, I only say that when it's very clear that some person hasn't got a clue what they're talking about, and clearly needs an education.

Why would atheists consider the the musings of qualified bible scholars or theologians? Both groups are fumbling about with scriptural interpretation or dreaming up half assed attempts at repudiating scientific fact. The role of the theologian is defunct and the sooner the study is jettisoned the better. I hope my condensation conveys a pithy view,

Atheism's only claim is that you cannot prove your alleged god exists. Since you cannot prove this in any objective way whatsoever, the claim is credible.

If you stick to your "church-approved" sources, I have no doubt that you would never find anything to conflict with the Bible, but that doesn't mean such things do not exist. Try reading some of the books on the "banned" list once in a while or visit http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/list.html

"{W}hen you conclude the Bible is a fairytale or a faction, it is never from backed up educational research or data, in tertiary institutions such as universities....

Yeah right cause we all know snakes can talk, the earth sits on pillars, 2 of each kind of animal can actually fit on a wooden boat, and zombies have the miraculous power of saving people.
