I want to learn the violin, but I have some questions?

I'm a little familiar with the music scale, but the last I actually learned with it was in grade 8, and I'm now in grade 11. I play guitar, but I learn from tabs and my brother.

1. Is the violin difficult to learn?

2. I don't think I can get lessons, so can it be self taught?

3. What is the price range? I don't want an expensive violin, as I would just be starting out.

4. Are there any sites that I can use as references or something?

Thank you in advance.

    1. It's more difficult than guitar.

    2. You can learn where to put your fingers for the basic notes and to saw back and forth with the bow without instruction, but if you ever want to get past the most basic beginner level you'll need instruction. Guitar is pretty easy to self-teach. Violin is not, and if you approach violin the way you approach guitar you'll get most of it wrong.

    3. A decent basic beginner outfit will run around $250-400. The cheap stuff you find on Ebay and Amazon is worthless and those violins usually need repairs before you can even start to use them. The bows tend to fall apart within a month or two. Considering what you have to spend on repairs and replacement parts for those, you're better off getting a decent beginner model to start with.

    4. Start with violinist.com
