Can I connect my laptop and use it as a screen using a USB cable?

Hello, I have a HP Pavilion dv6000 running Windows Vista. It has pretty bad specs but that won't matter now.

Is it possible to connect it to my custom built computer that is running Windows 8 and make it a second screen (using a double-end USB cable)

Nope - the wrong type of connection. USB will connect to a printer, an external hard drive, and some routers & modems - but NOT any kind of monitor.

Is the custom built computer running Windows 8 a laptop or a desktop using an external monitor already?

I've never tried to use a laptop as a second monitor for a desktop...

No you cannot connect computers up using an USB. You can, however, plug your laptop into your new computer (if it has an HDMI in) via an HDMI cable. Plug the cable into your laptop HDMI out port and plug the other end into the computer monitor with an HDMI in. Then plug your second screen up to your computer with an AVI cable.
