Is it a bad thing that my boyfriend didn't give me anything last Christmas, Valentines day, or my birthday?
Our 1 anniversary is coming up in one month and it's almost Christmas again and I'm pretty sure he isn't giving me anything. He really is affectionate and I know he cares about me. I don't really mind not receiving presents, I'm not materialistic. It just makes me upset that he doesn't bother giving me at least a card or anything to make me feel special.

Some guys really don't like getting presents for occasions. I think they don't like conforming to expectations, and sometimes they think it gives the woman power over them. But if a guy knows that those occasions mean something to you, and doesn't try to do something for them, it's a sign that he's not a very generous spirit. It doesn't have to be a gift- there are other ways of recognizing the occasion. I know a lot of men who aren't very good at picking up on hints, so they buy strange presents, and then they get upset when the women aren't really happy about getting the gift! So it's easier just not to buy something.
Here's my suggestion- for your anniversary, you suggest something special that the two of you can do together- go out to dinner, or cook a special meal or go for a picnic. If he's happy about doing something to celebrate, you're ok. If he doesn't seem to want to even mark the occasion, take it as a sign that you're going to be doing all the giving in this relationship for the rest of the time you're in it.

Let me ask you something. Does he do stuff for you on other days to make you feel special? If yes, then no. It's not a bad thing. Stop worrying about one silly day.
