Is there an antenna that I can put on my TV and get cable?

Cable is so expensive and I can't afford even the basic. Can anyone help?

No you can't get cable with an antenna, Mr, C.

You can pick up your local digital over airway broadcasters though. Most places can pick up at least a few of those, anything up to 10 or 20 local channels. You use an HDTV antenna for that. Which is really a UHF antenna but we don't talk about that.

Anyway you can spend 50 or a hundred bucks on one of these, or make one out of coat hangers and a piece of wood.

that's not the only design out there, but I made one of those and it does work pretty well

It sounds like you're confusing digital TV broadcast with cable.

If you have a DTV antenna, you can pick up a slew of local digital stations. Unfortunately, many of them are garbage. Without subscribing to cable, you will not be able to get cable stations.

However, if you have something like a Roku box or if can connect your laptop to your TV, you can watch many cable TV shows through services like Amazon Prime or Hulu. Many of these shows also put episodes on their website. It's kind of a poor man's way to watch cable, but it will do if you don't have the budget to afford cable.

Look into "cordcutting" (search the internet for that), there are many people out there looking to re-create the cable experience without actually paying for cable TV. It's a growing subculture.

No, not unless you live near a repeater. Repeaters are used to boost a stations strength to the cable company. They are usually on top of a mountain or tall building. Even with a repeater in your area you would only pickup 1 or 2 cable stations and its rare to do this. I had regular antenna TV for several years and when digital TV went on air I could get 18 channels with a $70 antenna on 20 ft mast. I have dish now and it sucks. Loads of channels but nothing but stupid reality shows and they show the same shows over and over again.

Im going back to over air TV, liked it better.

Your question makes absolutely no sense. You can't get cable without cable. With an antenna you can only get your local broadcast channels.
