New tires, Firestone Affinity Touring or Goodyear Weatherhandler Fuel Max?

They are both buy 3 get 1 Free ending up around 450.00 dollars.

The Goodyears offer lifetime balance for 8 dollars more, the firestones are free lifetime rotation.

Any opinions or are they both about the same?

It doesn't really matter, that's all sheer marketing.

Most reputable brands keep their eyes on each other and try to counteract their competitors' moves. The make having had negative publicity in the past may strive a bit more and probably provide better value for the $, but that's hard to understand before buying.

What matters is having a proper set of tires for the season in decent condition.

If in the process you can save some $$, so much the better.

Are you limiting yourself to these two options purely because of the buy 3 get 1 free sales gimmick? If so, you shouldn't. Neither the Affinity or the Weatherhandler are the best offerings from Firestone or Goodyear. Quite the opposite, actually, they are both poorly rated. Don't limit yourself to these two models. Hunt for some better quality options at tirerack.com. I bet you will find a higher rated set of tires for just about the same amount of cash you'd spend on either of your suggested options.

Goodyear gets better marks at tire rack. Check Michelin first.
