Thoughts on Knicks-Lakers trade rumors?

Lakers targeting Shumpert and Chandler. Thinking on proposing Gasol for Chandler trade. Thoughts? More info below from NBA.com.

Knicks fielding calls on Shumpert and Chandler? – Kyle Lowry is low-hanging fruit, as Kobe Bryant would say, when it comes to trade talks. The Los Angeles Lakers apparently have something a bit more aggressive in mind since they are now engaging the New York Knicks in discussions about two of the teams main rotation players, the seemingly always available Iman Shumpert and defensive anchor Tyson Chandler, according to ESPN’s Chris Broussard:

No trade is imminent, and sources say the Lakers’ call was more about doing their due diligence; it’s well-known Shumpert is available. The Lakers are unlikely to make a deal before the end of their current four-game trip, which concludes Tuesday night in Memphis.

But with Steve Blake, who is expected to miss at least six weeks with an elbow injury, joining point guards Steve Nash and Jordan Farmar on the injured list, the Lakers could be interested in strengthening their backcourt.

Shumpert is more of a shooting guard, but with Bryant taking on more of a playmaking role — averaging a career-high 6.7 assists while attempting fewer than nine shots a game — since returning from a torn Achilles tendon last Sunday, it’s easy to see the two playing together.

Shumpert is struggling through a disappointing season, and the Knicks have discussed trades involving him with several other teams, including the Denver Nuggets and Toronto Raptors.

Sources say the Lakers also are interested in another Knicks player — center Tyson Chandler. The Lakers did not inquire about Chandler when they called about Shumpert, but they are weighing whether to propose a Pau Gasol-for-Chandler trade, according to sources.

The Knicks are not looking to move Chandler — several teams have contacted them about him, sources said — but if a club agreed to take back struggling guard J.R. Smith, the Knicks would consider such a deal.

That would be interesting to see..i haven't seen Knicks play recently..so idk if Amare comes off bench or start..but a healthy Gasol and Bargnani would be quite interesting provided Felton handles the ball like he should..throw in a team first Melo and JR Smith..and Knicks could be a great offensive team..they'd lose quite a bit of D though

The term "Rumors" is NOT quietly true. If it becomes true & both Jim Buss & Knicks owners agreed to make trades, then what happen is that the Lakers just added another nail to the coffin who can't WAIT until next year summer since they will have open cap space! As a Lakers fan, I'm disgusted of this & I believe the Lakers should NOT make any trades UNLESS Melo is on the table, but the problem is we can't NOT give them Kobe,Young,Williams,Xavier, or even Pau. There is no way that the Knicks will take Pau since he has a heavy salary & sure hell no way LA will want both injured prone & overpaid Stoudmire & Chandler. Kobe is NOT untradable & Nash is MIA. The Lakers could only give them is scrub players like Sacre. This trade will NOT work & if Pau wants to leave, then give us Melo & we will give you Pau along with Sacre,D'Antoni, & Jim Buss to the Knicks.

Well to my credit I did predict a Gasol/Chandler/Shumpert trade before they started to talk about it. (It's on bleacher report about a month ago.). This trade would benefit both sides considering the fact that the Knicks are going to to nowhere and they will get a higher pick in the draft. Also Chandler offers the Lakers with much needed defensive help and I believe he is the missing factor that the Lakers need to go far in the playoffs. He also doesn't demand the ball and Shumpert is very similar, but he can lock down elite guards and shoot the three ball.
