What, in your opinion is love?

I know its impossible to describe, and can only be experienced.

However, if you had to, how would you describe it?

Update:

@Benjamin

No essay, I was just curious what people thought.

Humans are inescapably social and emotional beings. We need to have connection with other life and other people in order to satisfy our need to belong. Psychology tells us that we need connection and a sense of belonging or else we become insane, violent or depressed.

I believe love can be described as when you feel like you connect best with somebody or something. In the example of relationships, why do we say we love somebody? I think it is because we are able to talk with them in confidence, we can do a variety of things that make us happy WITH that person and that we feel that they would support us in our time of need. Likewise you become compelled to help the other person because of the guilt you may feel for not helping them when they helped you.

The way I see it humans psychologically think we are "right" about a great many deal of things to an extent and act upon our strong faith. Therefore if we find others who believe in what we believe in we connect and create a bond that grows so long as we continue to enjoy the other's presence/continue to agree with one another.

In short I believe love and it's various intensities is basically how strong our connection is to something or someone, the more it appeals to what we believe in/like the stronger the connection/love.

    1 Corinthians 13

    New International Version (NIV)

13 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Well, there are many ways to describe love. It is the seat of the heart. The mother of all emotions. You would love everything "but". And that but takes you out of love. Love uplifts. Love is understanding, Love is giving, love is warmth. Love is action. Love is desire. Love allows. Love is willing. Love is manifesting. Love is joy. Love is peace. Love is in you. Love is deep. Love heals. Love banishes hate. Love fulfills pain. Love expands from me to you. Love creates. Love is the void. Love is all. Love makes all things you see around you. Even hate is love at depth. You express hate because of a love you have. There is nothing that is without love. All is love.

Love is the most coveted commodity in the world. Unfortunately, many accept a crush, or an attraction for love and are sorely disappointed. The real thing is awe inspiring and beautiful.

When you can look at a MAN and see all the great things about him, and see the love in his heart then you found love. By the way, this man is a serial killer, and a rapist. The secret is to look at don't judge, and to know Truth Me Free.

There are many emotions lumped together that we call love. The ancient Greeks isolated 6 forms. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love

One of the problems with the concept of love is that so many try to tell others what they 'should' feel and how they 'should' be, love is not a straight jacket, it is a bonding for the needs of those who love.

Love is not to choose. It chooses you, it happens, never does. It is to picture your life immortally with her, to put your most precious belief on her, her feelings, her nature, her each and every doing.

Love is unconditional, it is to forget the own part and to be blended in one with honesty and faith, it can make your life heaven in a little hut. It is to understand each other, to compromise her guilt with the best part of your heart.

Love is not a journey to someone's life for some beautiful moments, it is to promise that you will sing every moment of your life with her in the same harmony of your souls till death.

I've been in three serious long-term relationships, and all three times I just fell for her. Out of the blue, I just really liked her and wanted to make her mine. I guess you could say love for a guy like me is…

I want to make her mine. I want her, rather than need her.
