How long should I cook a brisket for?
I'm using a slow cooker (on low) to cook my brisket. The recipe says 12-14 hours, but this is only a 3.5 lb brisket. How long?

12-14 hours. (Whats so hard about following the recipe?)
Meat goes through stages during slow cooking where it gives up liquid, the proteins de-nature, then they change and connective tissue turns to gelatin and it absorbs liquid.
Chicken takes about 4 hours in a slow cooker.
Pork takes about 8-10 hours.
Beef takes about 12-14 hours.
I tried a beef brisket for 8 hours which worked great for a pork-shoulder, and it came out tough and bad. A butcher on this site explained about the different types of meat taking different amounts of time.

you can stuff a brisket into a crock? wow! that is talented! I cannot do that and cook the brisket properly!!
I put it on the bottom of a roasting pan with lid, and put it into the oven at 250 F for that amount of time I use beer, broth, apple cider as the liquid to cook it in.

I cooked one about 3.75lbs a few days ago. I was serving it the next day, so I cooked it for 10 hours in my Crock Pot, put the whole ceramic (with the sauce as well) in the fridge overnight, then a couple hours before serving I took it out, sliced it, put it back in the sauce, and set the Crock Pot to the keep warm setting. It was perfectly cooked.

I would allow 60-90 minutes per lb
In an oven bag or a Dutch Oven I would allow 45 minutes per lb at 165C in the oven if I was in a hurry

brisket can be tough if not cooked long enough, cook it low and slow if you want it to be tender .

It all depends, what are you cooking ?
Are you planning on slicing it and making sandwiches or are you planning on something like corned beef and cabbage where it is shreaded ? ? ?

Insufficient data. And it's not clear to me whether the 3.5lb is for the recipe or the joint you've got.
What size joint do you have? What size joint is the recipe for?
