Spaying female dog after mating?
Ok first of all do not call our family bad dog owners, she has her first heat and we were planning to get her to the vet after her cycle was done, apparently we have an un neutered dog as well and we've been trying to keep them apart as much as possible, apparently he escaped and my sister and I saw them mating. I just wanna know when I should bring the female to the vet? Can I bring her next week because we don't have any time this week, BUT ill do whatever it takes if I need to get an emergency spay this week.
Thank you for all the answers :)
By the way both dogs are Labrador mixes both 7 months.

The best idea - get her into the vet within 48 hours of the mating, get a mis-mate shot that will restart her heat cycle and prevent pregnancy. Then, keep her PROPERLY confined - in a crate in a room with the door closed, exercised in a fenced area on a leash being held by an attentive person - and get her spayed after her cycle is finished.
Otherwise, the slightly riskier procedure of a gravid spay can be done anytime up to the day the puppies are due - but is better and easier earlier in the pregnancy.

The vet can do the spay while she is in heat, but may want to wait till after she is out of her heat cycle - more blood, etc.
While you are at the vets asking about getting her spayed, ask about getting the male neutered. That way,you can enjoy them for the wonderful pets they will be and not have to worry about them mating EVER AGAIN!!!!!!

Sorry but you are bad owners for not spaying the dog and then breeding it. Both dogs need to go to the vet and be spayed and neutered

It would be best to have her spayed ASAP. I don't advise having the miss-mate shot because you will have the same problem next time she comes into season.
I'm not sure I understand when you say 'apparently' you have an entire male dog. Does he have testicals or not. If he does have testicals he sure is entire. How long have you had this male and how come you don't know whether or not he is neutered? If you've had him since he was a pup you would surely know if you had him neutered.
If he's not neutered now would be a good time to have it done.

Go to the vet and have them give her a pregnancy test. They won't spay while she's pregnant unless you terminate the pregnancy, which some vet's won't even do if you've missed the time period for the miss-mate shot. Discuss your options with them because only they will be able to give you the best answers! On a side note, stuff happens and don't mind all these people giving you flack for having an unaltered male. Good luck!

Yes. Bring her to the vet this week and get her spayed. You didn't do "everything" to keep them apart. It's not rocket science. It's just plain careless.

"Apparently we have an un neutered dog"? We aren't sure if he has testicles or not?
She should be spayed within two weeks after finishing her heat. Any fetuses will still be microscopic and won't be stressing her still-growing body yet.
@Hk9, there's plenty of valid research that says otherwise.

Immediately, this week. For future reference, there is no advantage to waiting until the dog goes into heat to have it spayed.

Apparently , apperently , apparently ... Yeah you see what im seeing ?
Either way, go to your vet and discuss options for your poor dog
