You can't buy a 60 W incandescent light bulb after Jan.1. Who's fault is that?

If you say Obama, you'd be wrong.

The best part is that the most of the incandescents I've ever bought were made in the US, every CFL I've ever bought was made in China.

Well, first of all, that's not true. They are not banned. Maybe difficult to find, perhaps, but not against the law. They just have to abide by the new regulations.

And the law was created in 2007 and signed by the previous president-who-must-never-be-named.

Listen to the ArmchairPrincess if you want to hear NannySpeak at its finest.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, replacing $6 150-watt incandescent outdoor floods with LED units using 26 watts to provide roughly the same amount of light is costing me...wait for it now...$54 each. Now, I'll be the first to acknowledge that the LEDs are superior technology and produce totally acceptable lighting (unlike those excrescences known as CFLs); however, at a cost ratio of 9:1, it's insanity to insist than an entire populace suddenly start behaving, at least when it comes to purchasing light bulbs, as though in its entirety it is as rich as the 1%.

As with ObamaCare, some folks are going to be in for a very rude suprise. But, hey, at least our "liberal"frenz mean well, right? Right! lol

The 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act (see ReadTheBill.org) addressed the out-of-date, 134-year-old technology for incandescent light bulbs, not actually banning these antiquated energy-inefficient bulbs, but phasing them out in a technology-neutral way.

The 60-watt incandescent bulb emits about 900 lumens of light (15 lumens per watt of electricity) and converts only 5% to 10% of electricity into light---the rest is heat (very inefficient technology). The EISA requires that the bulb manufacturers increase energy efficiency for consumers in much the same way that auto manufacturers were required to make cares more fuel-efficient over time, with the goal for light bulbs set at using 3% less electricity (20 to 30 lumens per watt) initially but then to 45 lumens per watt by 2020.

There will be dollars saved over time...be patient.

You can still get incandescent bulbs that meet the new standards. Any major retailer will have them.

  • DEMOCRATS supported it 96%-3% 1% not voting

Republicans OPPOSED it 72%-23% 5% not voting

    Obama CO-SPONSORED IT.

THAT'S WHY Democrats claim it's a REPUBLICAN law that has nothing to do with Obama.
