physics work and friction in car engine?

When an automobile moves with constant velocity, the power developed in a certain engine is 104 hp.

What total frictional force acts on the car at 58.3 mi/h ?

1 hp = 746 W and 1 m/s = 2.2374 mi/h.

    P in watt = 746 * 104 = 77584 w

    velocity in m/s = 58.3 / 2.2374 = 26.057 m/s

    P = F * d in 1s

    F = P / d = 77584 / 26.057 = 2977.47 N
