There's no stomach flu, flu is a respiratory infection. So you may mean gastroenteritis. How long it lasts depends on the cause. Bacterial is usually a matter of a few days, 2-4, or so. Viral depends on the specific virus and therefor varies from 24-48 hours, 3-4 days and 8-10 days. Average is 3-4.

What you should do is wait it out. It will pass. Don't interfere with vomiting or diarrhea. This is how your body rids itself of the pathogen.

@Jacob. Tamiflu is for flu, not gastroenteritis. There's is no such thing as "stomach flu". And Tamiflu is not for everyone and does not "cure" flu. It lessens the severity of symptoms and shortens the duration of this *respiratory* infection by 1 to 2 days.

Actually tweetybird is both wrong and right. I was just recently diagnosed with a GI bug but the doctor called it the Stomach Flu. She told me a GI bug and the term Stomach Flu mean the same thing. No, it's not actually a flu and tamiflu won't work, as influenza is a respiratory thing and a stomach flu is a stomach bug.....but people still call it stomach flu

Stomach flu can last from 1-14 days on average. I got it earlier in the year and it lasted 7 days. Go to the doctor and have him prescribe you tamiflu, it doesn't make you high and it makes you feel 50% better.

I just had the same thing. Mine lasted 4 days...I am finally feeling better. Give it time, just eat light...soup/pastina/scrambled eggs/soft gentle foods...as long as you are not vomiting....Hope you feel better. It's a nasty thing to have....my stomach has been killing me for days...
