What should I do, does he really like me or,?

Ok, so I like this guy and I have recently found out from a friend that the feeling is mutual. He's kind of shy and a little awkward but i think its cute. Anyways my friend told me he said he wished he could ask me out but hes never had a girlfriend before so he doesnt know how to. I want him to ask me out, because I've had a crush on him since like the first week of school. But im starting to get annoyed because he says he likes me but wont make a move. What should I do, get over him and realize he isnt that interested or wait and try to bring him out of his shell. please help me :(
